Origins and Overview
The establishment of Beijing Green Sunshine Environmental Foundation stemmed from the urgent need for air pollution control and ecological barrier construction in the capital. At that time, severe smog episodes were frequent, and forests, as natural air-filtering systems, could capture 4.2 tons of dust, sequester 12.8 tons of carbon, and release 11.34 tons of oxygen per mu per year, playing a critical role in ecological improvement. Faced with arduous tasks such as afforestation on barren hills in Beijing, restoration of abandoned mines, and Yongding River governance, as well as the need to consolidate the achievements of national voluntary tree planting, the Foundation was established at the right moment, aiming to build a professional platform for citizens to promote, plant, and protect green spaces, to mobilize complementary social resources for ecological governance, and to practice the guiding spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's instruction to "unswervingly love, plant, and protect greenery."
Beijing Green Sunshine Environmental Foundation was approved and directly registered by the Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau. It is a 3A-level non-public fundraising foundation officially established in Mentougou District in August 2014, with an initial endowment of 2 million yuan. In 2016, it was recognized as a charitable organization. Its current registered address is Room 803, Building 1, No. 28 Xiaoyun Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing. Its business scope includes carrying out public welfare activities related to ecological and environmental governance and greening construction, as well as rewarding units and individuals with remarkable achievements in ecological and environmental governance.
To date, the Foundation has formed a diversified positioning as a "platform-based grantmaker, resource-mobilizing advocate, and incubator for innovative action." From its establishment in 2014 to 2025, it has cumulatively raised over 21.5703 million yuan in charitable funding, implemented dozens of public-interest projects covering multiple regions nationwide, and established a sound management system and financial accounting system to ensure standardized project implementation and earmarked use of funds.
